We all know the rather great work BlueBood is giving us via Clix with Dorothy aka Happy Alarm and food (aka the reason why I can’t go to a cake shop anymore without giggling). Dorothy is great with food. Hands down, hands up, any way you slice it–she’s brilliant with food. So, when I saw this series in a zoo pass across my desk, my first reaction was ‘wow’. Would the energy she and unadulterated fun she displays in all of her food work transfer to a living animal scene? Echoes of ‘don’t work with children or animals’ came back from theater classes.
The verdict is…she’s rather brilliant in this setting, too. Move over Newt Scamander, there’s a new kind of magic in town and Dorothy is bringing the goods. I loved this shoot. It had everything I thought I would see from clean/fun animal play to dayglow socks (I really really want those socks) to blue hair and eyebrows to a lot of rather cool shots using the zoo as a prop. It’s like Dorothy is this ball of positive energy and Clix snaps the photo at the right instant as she buzzes and whirls around the set. The magic really does come off well from these photos.
The photos do have a nice mix of safe for work and NSFW vibe to them. For example, there is a picture of Dorothy with a lizard. I’m pretty sure this is what I’d look like next to her. There are a lot of killer flashing shots (I mean, check out the socks she flashes below!) and I adore the playful mood in the set. There is this shot where she’s snuggling up to the crocodile and then getting her bum bit by it. The entire photo set is just great fun.
One thing I did notice about the Kickstarter book and her work we display is that she really is her work. What I mean is, she is the art. It’s rather rare for the artist to be the actual work of art but that is what we get with Dorothy–her drawings reflect her style; her personality is a huge part of her work in the shoots; and, there is a perfect blending of art and artists in everything I’ve seen from here. I can’t wait for this Kickstarter book to come out. We’ve all had pretty rough 2016s and if Dorothy’s work here is any reflection of what we’ll see in the book, well, we all need a great dose of positivity. I’m in for one and I sure that everyone else can use a bit of Happy Alarm themselves.
When photographer Clix and bubbly model Dorothy go to the zoo, the animals just might get a bit of an eyeful 😉 If you enjoy Dorothy a.k.a. Audra a.k.a. Happy Alarm’s work, I highly recommend checking out the Ultra Happy Alarm Kickstarter. Just seeing how adorable she is in the Kickstarter video is worth the click.
