For everyone who wondered why Wolverine’s presence is not that greatly felt in the last X-Men movie, this may be the reason!
Hugh Jackman was working — and still is! — with Fox for the third Wolverine movie, which was not given a title as of the moment. Fox is thinking of giving it a name of Weapon X but it is still not concrete.
The director — James Mangold — said that his inspiration is the Wolverine comic book story lines… this means including “Old Man Logan.”
Also, based on JustJared, they have the photos from the set of Wolverine 3 and it shows a heavily-bearded Logan (Hugh Jackman) driving a bullet-riddled limousine. What would become of Wolverine if it is not action-packed, right?
Patrick Stewart will also be in the movie as Professor X.
Unfortunately, the next Wolverine 3 movie would be the last movie Hugh Jackman will make for X-Men. As he mentioned before through an interview pre X-Men Apocalypse movie release, it has been more than a decade that he has been playing the role of Logan and people loved it as well as he does.
Why isn’t Logan’s presence featured in the last X-men movie?
Kinberg explained it to CinemaBlend that they loved Hugh Jackman and it was intended that Wolverine will play a bigrole in X-Men Apocalypse; however, their plans changed when they realized that Wolverine’s original role in the film interfered with Mystique’s (Jennifer Lawrence) larger purpose in the film. This is the turning point where they decided to let Mystique take the limelight.
Here is his verbatim on the interview:
“There was always a notion that we wanted Wolverine to be in the movie. We wanted to find a way to feature him in the film, partly because Bryan [Singer] and I love Hugh [Jackman] so much. We love the character, obviously, and he’s such a huge part of the franchise. There were a lot of iterations of how Wolverine would enter and exit the movie. There was a version when he was going to come in at the midpoint of the film and be like the drill sergeant for the kids and take over as their leader. And we felt like that stepped on [Jennifer Lawrence’s] role in the movie and becoming their leader.
As we were, again, conceptually brainstorming the script, we knew that the kids were going to be abducted, or that a lot of our main characters were going to be abducted and taken somewhere. So we thought it would be interesting to take them to Alkali Lake, and that they would naturally, potentially… that the Weapon X program would be there, and maybe that was a place to find Wolverine.”
It is also said that Hugh Jackman’s appearance as Wolverine will be the last but don’t worry because the Wolverine 3 movie will be released on March 3,2017. The release date may be moved to an earlier or later date based on the demands and also if the film has been polished and ready to go.
