I’m sure all of us were excited when it was announce that our favorite book, Divergent, will have a movie version. It was obvious a lot of us were hooked to it because it grossed over $288 million worldwide last 2014. Following the first movie’s success, the second installment The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015) also succeeded, which grossed over a whooping $297 million worldwide, higher than the first movie.
Everyone was really looking forward for the third movie, The Divergent Series: Allegiant; however, when it was released last March 18, 2016 , it seems that not everyone was happy about it when it only grossed $29 million in its opening weekend, even beaten by Zootopia, which was already on its third week.
What went wrong?
It was a good two installments but based on the reviews, there are a lot of things they removed from the book and only left a very uninteresting story for the movie. It may have been great if they left the story as it is on the book. In my own opinion, it may have taken a long time before it was released if every detail in the book to the movie BUT it may have been worth it.
The fourth movie, The Divergent Series: Ascendant, will be released on June 9, 2017 and I’m looking forward for a more rich story on this one because it’ll be a great waste starting off strong for the Divergent series and will only end up crashing to the ground.
