Independence Day: Resurgence

Who could ever forget the movie Independence Day last 1996? Personally, it’s the first movie where I saw Will Smith and I can say he’s pretty good and I’ve been a fan ever since!

If we watch the movie Independence Day today, I can say that it does not have an amazing graphic but way back then, it was the coolest movie ever.

I’ve always wondered, why is it out of all the apocalypse-type of movies and alien invasions, why did they not make a sequel? Well, the long wait is over because Independence Day: Resurgence is scheduled to be released on June 24, 2016. As the trailer said, we had 20 years to prepare. I waited 20 years so this has to be good.

What excited me the most is that, this is truly a sequel to the 1996 Independence Day and boy, was I glad to see they even featured Captain Steven Hiller’s (Will Smith) picture on it and in this movie, Jessie Usher is Captain Steven Hiller’s son, Dylan Hiller. This makes it more realistic!

Unfortunately, for all Will Smith and original Independence Day fans, he will not be in the movie. On one interview, Roland Emmerich said that Will Smith was really excited to reprise his role especially that the original cast is there and there is a father-son aspect in the movie. However, in 2012, Will Smith already got his father-son movie with his real life son, Jaden Smith, he and wife Jada Pinkett Smith are producers, he already got the father and son movie he wanted. Emmerich also mentioned that Will Smith got tired of sequels (Men In Black, Bad Boys).

Will Smith will always be the icon for the Independence Day movie but it’s the new generation now and it’s time for the new generation actors to put their best into this movie and be the next star. It’s also wise for him to decide on this so that a new actor will lead the movie and be recognized not just because it is the sequel of a great movie.
