GWAR and Bad Dragon collaborating is one of the best pieces of news I’ve heard. For a very long time, I’ve advocated for science fiction fandom remaining a genre with offerings for adult enthusiasts. For those not familiar with the band’s theatrical (and messy) presentation, their look has always had a dramatic and horrifying alien vibe. Lead singer and band co-founder Oderus Urungus explained that he was the intergalactic barbarian progeny of a super computer and a petri dish. Basically, gross-out alien warriors.
In addition to over-the-top costuming, GWAR sprays fluids, generally stage blood, absolutely everywhere. Many years ago, I saw GWAR perform at AggieCon and at DragonCon and they were amazing. At one of those shows, I don’t recall which, a friend of mine made the mistake of wearing a fur bikini and got it just drenched in stage blood, never to be wearable again. (You can’t really launder a fur bikini.)
Over his decades of performing, Dave Brockie, who embodied the Oderus Urungus character, wore a variety of larger-than-life codpieces, but the Cuttlefish was the biggest. In one widely-reported incident, Dave Brockie was charged with obscenity in North Carolina and the police kidnapped his Cuttlefish and it made national newspapers. Because, while having breakfast before work, who does not want to read about someone getting their two and a half foot rubber dick confiscated?
When High On Plastic Toys made an Oderus Urungus collectible vinyl figure, they did it with the Cuttlefish clearly visible. So the perfect collaborator to truly immortalize Oderus’ detachable giant peen is certainly Bad Dragon toys, internationally famous for always being at the forefront of helping us all realize our dreams of inserting unusual fantasy creature penii.
I love what this toy looks like, but I’m not sure how to describe it. Bad Dragon describes the Signature edition as having, “A shaft of sloppy oozy UV Reactive Red highlight over an intense Neon Yellow to Green fade with a Glow in the Dark Green beneath, on top of a base of marbled Brain matter.”
which is now available in Print and Digital editions from Zinetastic
