Yuyuko Saigyouji plays the central villainous role in Perfect Cherry Blossom, an upward-scrolling shooter game that constitutes the seventh official installment in the Touhou Project series. This game offers a selection of three playable characters, with each character possessing two distinct skill sets.
Touhou Project is set within the mysterious realm of Gensokyo, an enchanted area in Japan also known as the ‘Land of Dreams’ or ‘Realm of Imagination,’ safeguarded from external intrusion by the formidable Great Hakurei Barrier. This land serves as the home to both humans and youkai, a diverse array of supernatural entities, each occupying distinct territories. Yuyuko Saigyouji is a Dead and/or Immortal character. She is presumed to have “died over 1000 years ago” according to PMiSS and was born sometime in the 12th century.
It’s truly invigorating to come across a Touhou Project cosplay, such as this Yuyuko Saigyouji cosplay by Hana, especially in a cosplay scene dominated by mainstream and contemporary anime and games. It’s heartwarming to witness cosplayers continuing to show their respect for the timeless classics.
