BlueBlood’s Amelia G and Forrest Black do it again. This time, they bring cereal to a whole new level. I’m not sure who came up with the idea, but the Blue Blood shoot definitely is something to witness. The idea is rather fun–take Dorothy Perkins and put her into a kiddie pool filled with Fruit Loops. Seriously, haven’t we all had at least one fantasy about finding the perfect love over breakfast? This just takes that concept a bit more literal.
What I really like about this is that it tickles my imagination. I see her as a fairy sitting in a bowl of cereal. Or maybe we’re just giants and she’s climbed up our beanstalk. Either way, the idea can connect to our built-in concept of wonder and exploration. Her innocent smiles along with the poses (I see a frog pose!) really makes this shoot. There aren’t many models who would let someone make them breakfast, so it’s great to see Dorothy Perkins having so much fun with it. It really adds to the liveliness.
Although I could show a few pictures here, the pictures I really like all involve her not having her top on (as great as it is). The way she poses by jumping up or kneeling in the pool with a smile on her pink/purple haired head just adds to the fun. This is something I’d imagine Love, American Style doing if they could get away with it.
Now, who wouldn’t want to start their day with a big bowl of Dorothy Perkins? In fact, I hear she’s part of a well-balanced diet. Trust me, I’m a doctor.
Normally I would wait until I’d shot with someone a few times before investing a lot in a set, but I could tell right away that Dorothy Perkins was creatively on the same page with me and Forrest Black and would be wonderful to make art with. So, among other things, I went out to buy a kiddie pool to make Dorothy breakfast in. (To be clear, that would be a breakfast cereal bowl with Dorothy in it, not breakfast for Dorothy.) I wanted to make sure we had enough room for a lot of colored O’s. A lot of them. Once we actually got to the studio and DJ Flap Jack (who was hanging out) and Forrest Black got the pool assembled and filled . . . well, the pool was hilariously huge and made for even more fun pictures. I love how these turned out, very much how they first appeared in my mind’s eye and I love shoots which make the vision visible. I hope everyone is keeping cool in the summer sun!
