I cannot remember the first time I saw the trailer for Captain America : Civil War but my first reaction was (besides from being really amazed on how cool it is) that I felt that I know the actress (playing as Scarlet Witch) from somewhere.
Then, I saw the re-run of Beastly. She’s not Mary Kate Olsen’s twin, Ashley. I found out that she’s Elizabeth Olsen, the younger sister of the famous twins. She was born on February 16, 1989 and unlike her sisters, she did not get so famous at a very young age. Before the age of eleven, Olsen had small roles in How the West Was Fun and the straight-to-video series The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley; however, she had never outshone her sisters that time.
Although she already got small roles from her sisters’ productions, she auditioned for other movies including Spy Kids, but did not get the role. Back in 2004, when there’s media frenzy surrounding Mary-Kate’s eating disorder, Elizabeth almost quit acting.
It seems like Elizabeth patiently waited for the right time and the right role. While waiting for right time, she enrolled at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and she also spent a semester studying in Moscow, Russia last 2009 at the Moscow Art Theatre School through the MATS program at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.
The time has come and on 2011, her breakout role came. She appeared in the film Martha Marcy May Marlene as Martha, a girl suffering from delusions and paranoia after leaving her life in a cult and returning to her family. Because of this movie, she was nominated for and won numerous critics awards. Soon after, she appeared in the horror film remake Silent House, in which she played the role of Sarah. Her acting skills were highly praised on both of these films.
She’s really making a name on her own because she also starred in Legendary’s Godzilla reboot, opposite Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson last 2014.
She’s then about to make another noise by reprising the role of Scarlet Witch on Captain America : Civil War where she originally appeared back on Avengers: Age of Ultron. I can say that this actress is not just another “Olsen” as she is making a name of her own.
