So I’m sure by now the whole internet–or at least the segment that follows SF– has seen College Humor’s Cosplay With My Heart. If you haven’t, go check it out below. Don’t worry, I’ll wait here.
I’ll admit it, I love this song despite the fact that I think homeboy’s a bit of a wimp. I bet a bit of fur wouldn’t have stopped Han Solo– not to mention good ol’ Kirk. At first I was a wee bit put off– there’s nothing wrong with being really into cosplay! Or LARPing! Or wearing giant animal costumes (or a kigarumi if you’re not ready to commit to the full mascot gear)! I mean, if that’s your thing, have fun!
Then I think back to my own history and realize I can’t judge too harshly. I’ve had people who crossed my poorly-defined lines– for example, there was that one dude who wanted to pretend to be the Minotaur. (“What were you supposed to be?” a friend asked. “I don’t know, he didn’t specify. Someone having sex with the Minotaur, I guess.”)
