As part of an effort to raise awareness of and interest in comics, Diamond, the only serious distributor of them, sponsors a yearly Free Comic Book Day. You can go to your local participating retailer and get your very own freebie. This is a great incentive to discover a wonderful medium. In theory, not every store participates, but just about every establishment more friendly to fandom than a Seven Eleven does participate.
