This con is celebrating three decades of running varied tracks of programming, including ones definitively for adults. Guest of honor are author Andrea Hairston and visual artist Reiko Murakami. In keeping with their dedication to variety, aside from the usual panels you’d expect, this weekend features events ranging from anime screenings to anachronistic dance.

Often delightfully shortened to FurCon, this furry convention is particularly known for its IRL furry dance off competitions and dance parties, as well as occasionally hosting virtual dances in the months in between the annual events. This well-attended con also feature an art show and panels and raises funds for animal charities.

This is a very community-oriented and punny furry convention with slogan, “Viva Paw Vegas!” The event grew out of a student club at the University of Las Vegas called Rebel Anthropomorphic Works & Recreation club. Their acronym is RAWR, and the con is run by offshoot SNAE (Southern Nevada Anthropomorphic Events.)

They have numerous companies, both large and indie and even just independent talent, exhibiting in their expo hall. There are also sexy performances on the stage in the expo hall. Each year SexyFandom’s Bazowie! Awards is held specifically to honor creators of all the amazing work being done with themes of cosplay, science fiction, fantasy, video games, and anime. This year, it will again be a livestreamed event with a virtual red carpet.

TsumiCon is an anime convention with an adults-only approach. This con also includes escape rooms, Furry Logic and Twisted Tails. If you have ever thought you’d be great at solving puzzle while wearing your fursuit, BGLC has you covered.

They do this con twice a year, one big show in the summer and then an even bigger show closer to Halloween. Celebrating all things horror and related, the event will have guests like Clive Barker and four of the actors who played Cenobites, a zombie walk, costume contest, and more than fifty tattoo artists.

The Days of the Dead team throws seven conventions a year, all about horror pop culture, but with a varying focus in each city. This iteration has lots of humor thrown in with the horror. Along with creators from Friday the 13th and Dawn of the Dead, they have actors from the 40 year anniversary of Revenge of the Nerds and Chris Kattan and Don Jamieson will be doing their Dead Comedy Jam. Skinny Puppy’s Nivek Ogre will be there for REPO! The Genetic Opera.

Held in an actual 17th century castle. The castle has been renovated for modern comforts, but this is still a castle on secluded grounds more than a hundred miles from Prague. The weekend’s festivities include furries and knights enjoying medieval cuisine and activities including both traditional and fursuited highland games.

This is an adults-only anime and pop culture convention. Thrown by the creators of the established DerpyCon, the goal of this con is to foster friendships and community. While they do have panels and cosplay and a dealers room, their focus is for attendees to connect over common interests, in the style of smaller hotel cons which used to be the standard.

This is a huge convention, with a focus on autographs, but also separate programming tracks for anime, comics, gaming, SF&F, horror, etc. Their dealers room is huge. A very nice feature this event offers is their Cosplay Red Carpet. It is not particularly a red carpet to anything, just a fun opportunity for cosplayers to strut their stuff and get photographed.

This event includes the always-popular MCFC Fursuit Dance Competition, as well as the Floor Warz Competition which is fursuit-optional (meaning you can compete even if not in a fursuit or partial fursuit, not that you should be naked.)

Dick Award will be awarded the second day of this extended holiday weekend con.

Unlike most similar conventions, this one managed to grow into a bigger and bigger event, while maintaining a true fandom vibe. Guests of Honor include writer Martin Powell, historian B.L. Blankenship, artist Leia Powell , and cosplayer Paige Gardner.

The Hugos awards, for excellence in the field of science fiction and fantasy, are awarded each year by the World Science Fiction Society at that year’s WorldCon. WorldCon itself is held in a different city every year, determined by a bid and vote system. The 78th World Science Fiction Convention, CoNZealand, was held virtually. If it is possible to have the 79th in person, this will be the third time the DC area has played host to the event.
