Blue Blood VIP Passes One Hundred Thousand Photos

— Molly Case on August 17th, 2009 @ 6:44 am Books, General Fandom, Real Life, Web Sites

cherry ledgrey bluebloodGoodness, the Blue Blood VIP members area passed 100,000 images while Sexy Fandom was sort of on hiatus. It seems like only yesterday when I was buying my first copy of Blue Blood magazine at a science fiction convention vendor booth. I guess it was actually sixteen years ago. Where does the time go? 100k is a really impressive number of genuine, artistic, erotic, on-topic, cool photographs of interesting-looking people. I think it is a nice touch that Blue Blood chose to pass the 100k mark with a photo set featuring Blue Blood magazine covergirl Cherry. It is impressive to be able to collaborate with some of the same people for so many years and have those people still be so very hot. Cherry is such a beautiful girl.

Hustler Star Trek Porn

star trek pornI assume that, if you read Sexy Fandom, you probably already know that Hustler did a Star Trek parody porn movie called This Ain’t Star Trek XXX. The movie features Sasha Grey who also recently appeared in a Steven Soderburgh movie The Girlfriend Experience playing a high end hooker. There is no science fiction in The Girlfriend Experience. I could make a case for it, but I’d just be making debaters points. Anyway, Star Trek and pornography, a match made . . . a lot of places really, if you’ve ever checked out any slash fanfic.

Bound Gods

boundgods farmer tattooed punkSexy Fandom was on what you might call hiatus when the Fucking Machines people started the Bound Gods site. At the time they started, the PR about the site seemed to indicate that BoundGods is science fiction-themed. When some of the hottest stuff on there features Rusty Stevens and Drake Jaden as a farmer teaching a littering party punk a lesson, I am not sure I see the sci-fi angle, but I do see the appeal. If you are uncomfortable looking at more than one penis in the same picture with no vulvic matter present, don’t click. If you always got excited when Batman or James Bond got tied up by the villain, then this might be just the site for you. Complete with forced robot love.

amelia g ameliag ameliag.comSpeaking of Amelia G and Blue Blood, this week Amelia G launched a personal site at AmeliaG.com as a sort of central space for her varied works. I like that she collected up her blog entries from different sites and combined all of them from the last four years on AmeliaG.com. My favorite part of the site is her photography portfolio which features many of the bands who do the science fiction and comic book convention circuit, including The Misfits, gODHEAD, and Combichrist. The personal pics section is also really fun. The professional photos are captioned, but the snapshots are not. Some people of fandom note I am able to pick out from the casual party pictures are Sean Abley from Socket and Gay of the Dead, Chris Wylde from Film Fakers, Clint Catalyst from America’s Next Top Model, one of my very favorite authors Thomas S. Roche, and Chewbacca.

What is fandom?

— Molly Case on December 29th, 2005 @ 7:16 am About Us, General Fandom

Fandom (from the noun fan and the affix -dom, as in kingdom, dukedom, etc.) refers to a community of keen aficionados who share a common interest in any phenomenon, such as authors, hobbies, genres or fashions. Fandom as a term can also be use to refer to the single interconnected network of these individual fandoms, many of which overlap.

Fans (or the plural fen) typically are interested in even minor details of the object of their fandom; this is what differentiates them from those with only casual interest.

The objects of a fandom typically relate to the arts, sports or entertainment. For example, it would be unusual to refer to an accountant who is very interested in the details of accounting as a “fan” of accounting.

Members of a fandom associate with one another, often attending fan conventions (such as science fiction conventions), and publishing and exchanging fanzines. Today, these communities are often online, especially for less well-known source material.

Some fans also write fan fiction, stories based around the universe and characters of their chosen fandom. Some also dress in costumes (“cosplay”) or recite lines of dialogue either out-of-context or as part of a group reenactment.

The term “fandom” is particularly associated with fans of the science fiction and fantasy genres, a community that dates back to the 1930s and has held the World Science Fiction Convention since 1939. The Oxford English Dictionary traces the usage of the term back as far as 1903, with many of its documented references referring to sports fandom.

The term is also commonly associated with anime/manga. Serious fans of this subject are also called otaku.

“Fandom” is also the name of a documentary / mockumentary about a fan obsessed with Natalie Portman. (via Wikipedia)

Fur and Loathing in Las Vegas

— Molly Case on November 9th, 2004 @ 10:22 am Costuming, Movies, Real Life

What is up with the Furry Posts? I just saw the infamous furry episode of CSI on DVD and it brought this particular subgenre of fandom to mind. The Las Vegas Crime Scene Investigators have to figure out how a man in a cute racoon suit ended up dead and they descend into an oddly dark little corner of fictional furry fandom to find out what actually happened. I wanna make it with Sexy Kitty too. But only in the costume of course.

I believe that brilliant writer Jerry Stahl is largely responsible for this bit of furry depravity being on CSI. Jerry Stahl is probably best known for the movie Permanent Midnight which was based on his autobiographical account of his battles with heroin and addiction. He also wrote the science fiction porn cult classic Cafe Flesh under the name Herbert W. Day.

I love when a great TV show like this comes out on DVD because I get to enjoy it without all the scheduling nuisances of regular television. This particular episode of CSI is called Fur and Loathing in Las Vegas which is pretty much the wittiest name ever for a show like that. I heartily recommend picking up the CSI – Fourth Season DVD which includes Fur and Loathing in Las Vegas.

CSI – the Complete First Season, CSI – Season 2, and CSI – Crime Scene Investigation, The Complete Third Season are also all available now on DVD. I went with the econo option and just bought the complete box set with all four seasons of all the existing episodes on DVD.

What is SF?

— Molly Case on September 21st, 2004 @ 6:29 pm General Fandom

The earliest known usage of the term “science fiction” is in 1851 (in Chapter 10 of William Wilson’s A Little Earnest Book upon a Great Old Subject), in which he writes: “Science-Fiction, in which the revealed truths of Science may be given interwoven with a pleasing story which may itself be poetical and true.”

However this appears to be an isolated usage and the term appears to have been recoined in the 1920s where it appeared in Amazing Stories.

Science fiction is often abbreviated as SF or sci-fi. However, SF is not unambigous (see under Other types, below), and sci-fi is seen by some as having derogatory overtones. A short lived synonym was scientifiction. (via Wikipedia)
