Hideaki Anno’s Evangelion

Everyone who loves anime surely have heard about Evangelion, an apocalyptic type of anime, which was originally broadcasted on TV Tokyo from October 1995 to March 1996. The team of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion consists of Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Soryu.

This anime is considered as not only popular but one of the biggest anime of all time because it has become a cultural icon that influenced an artistic and technical revival of the anime industry. After the release of Neon Genesis Evangelion, other anime series of mecha genre had emerged as well.

The next OVA of Evangelion was last November 17, 2012 with the title: Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo and the third of four films released in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, based on the original anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion which was all written and directed by Hideaki Anno.
The fans’ response with the last OVAs were amazing, as they were waiting for decades for the next seasons, remakes and OVAs so when it was announced on different websites such as Vcpost last July 16,2015 that there will be another Ova in the making, everybody’s really looking forward to it especially when it was announced that it will be released Christmas of that year.

Unfortunately, Christmas came but still there is no news about Evangelion movie and fans were wondering what happened to it and if the news is indeed true. Hideaki Anno, writer and director of the anime, apologized to the fans, saying that making the third film really took a lot out of him and even reached the point where he thought he can no longer continue the third film. Then, Godzilla Resurgence, which kept him busy and took his mind out of Evangelion for a while. Because of this break, he was able to get back to his momentum in making the third film, Evangelion 3.0+1.0, AKA Evangelion: Final.

Anno’s creative mind needed a break in order to be creative and his therapist, Sachiko Fukuda, who has been Mr. Anno’s psychologist for nearly twenty years, said that making this movie is literally killing him.

According to Anime Maru ‘s interview with his therapist, Anno is well-known for the mental breakdowns he commonly undergoes during the writing and animation of new entries in the Evangelion due to the show’s depressing and misanthropic themes. She is hoping that the fans all over the world will understand the stress they have placed on Anno, and allow him to walk away from the franchise.

However, it seems that there are people who wants the anime film more than the mastermind himself, it would be better if we’d just be a little patient but to not expect too much. Looking at the brighter side, there is not an anime that is comparable to Evangelion so it makes it a classic mecha or apocalyptic anime, don’t you agree?
