Happy Memorial Day

— Molly Case on May 30th, 2005 @ 1:00 am Real Life

Memorial Day originally was intended to honor the Union soldiers who died in the American Civil War and was initially always supposed to be May 30. For my international readers, the Union soldiers were fighting against slavery and for northern fiscal domination. At any rate, it then became the last Monday in May every year. First the holiday was expanded to include honoring all American soldiers who died in wars. Not to be confused with Veterans Day which honors those who lived through them. In 1971, Richard Nixon was the one responsible for changing the date to be the floating last Monday of May as opposed to the solid and dependable May 30. Make of that what you will. This year the date would be the same whichever way it was figured.

Gutter Punk Street Vamp Scar

Here is a gallery of Scar doing more of a gutter punk street vamp look. Yes, it seems this is Scar week at Sexy Fandom. I am just so impressed with the new Scar13.com site.

Blue Blood Scar Stars in New Scar13.com!

— Molly Case on May 26th, 2005 @ 2:10 pm Costuming, Web Sites

Blue Blood has done it again, delivering an original, erotic, creative, gothic site like no one else can. Scar13.com is the newest in their ever-growing community network and it just knocks my socks off. I usually like girls with more meat on them, but Scar is truly exceptional. If slender spooky brunettes are your thing, she is flawless and, if they are not your thing, she is still pretty gorgeous and sexy. I especially love how her personality comes across in the free area of the Scar13 site. Not to mention the hot photography.

Sex Wrecks Likes Sexy Fandom!

— Molly Case on May 25th, 2005 @ 11:07 pm Gadgets, Real Life, Web Sites

I recently discovered the Sex Wrecks site and found myself drawn into their vortex of fascinating tales of personal depravity. I am so pleased they like me too. Here is what SexWrecks had to say, “Geeks and Teats: SexyFandom.com blends sci-fi with sex-fiendism in a manner that would make more than Mr. Spock’s ears pointy. Jack in, for example, to their recent collection of (barely) costumed honeys at a video-game convention. Yes, that is a phaser in our pants, but we’re also just happy to see them.”

I have a phaser in my pants too, but alas it is only a strap-on.

Sexy Fandom Loves Darth and Free Fonts

— Molly Case on May 22nd, 2005 @ 11:44 pm Gadgets, Movies

Comicraft or Comic Books Fonts is giving away their Storm Trooper font to anyone who signs up for their mailing list. Realizing that being on their mailing list will probably make you covet fonts, please proceed at your own risk. The message from this Sith font-monger is, “Our clone army of Stormtrooper letters is now ready to be unleashed upon the rest of the universe… although their journey to the darkside is not yet complete, we still suggest that if you’d like to avoid any Imperial entanglements, this is NOT the font you are looking for… You can go about your business… Move along…”

Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

— Molly Case on May 19th, 2005 @ 1:00 am General Fandom, Movies

The new Star Wars movie Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith comes out today. I’d write more, but I’m guessing most of you are going to be at the movies anyway. Except I suppose for readers in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Uruguay who inexplicably got the movie a day before most of the rest of the world. Did they make the film in French first? My sympathies to Estonia, Ecuador, Korea, Greece, Iceland, India, Italy, and Romania who all must wait one more long day. And of course deeper sympathies to the Japanese who have to wait until July ninth for proper theatrical release. Although, somehow I can’t imagine that a country as technologically advanced as Japan will really have to wait that long in practical terms. Maybe they are getting extra specials effects or something.

Nebula Award Winners

— Molly Case on May 13th, 2005 @ 12:45 pm Books

The 2004 Nebula Awards for best science fiction or fantasy were presented on April 30 in Chicago, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America announced. The Nebula Awards are voted on and presented by active members of the SFWA, which now has 1,500 members, including most of the leading writers of science fiction and fantasy. A list of winners follows: Best Novel of 2004: Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold, Best Novella of 2004: “The Green Leopard Plague” by Walter Jon Williams, Best Novelette of 2004: “Basement Magic” by Ellen Klages, Best Short Story of 2004: “Coming to Terms” by Eileen Gunn, and Best Script of 2004: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award was presented to Anne McCaffrey for lifetime achievement in the field. She is only the 22nd writer so honored since 1974. A special “Service to SFWA” award was given to Kevin O’Donnell Jr. in recognition of his 16 years of volunteer service to the organization. (via scifi.com)

Your Regularly Scheduled Program

— Molly Case on May 11th, 2005 @ 10:17 pm Real Life

I’ve been having a dreadful bout of CFIDS. Some days are better than others and some weeks are much much worse than others. I love doing this site, but a hobby has to wait when I have to curtail my activities to manage my very limited energy. Professional deadlines have to come first. If you are interested in learning more about chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome, I recommend a visit to the CFIDS Association of America website at CFIDS.org. I promise to return to our regularly scheduled program in the next few days. Really bad spells don’t tend to last longer than that for me and I can write a bit even with the brain fog.

The Power of the Dark Side

— Molly Case on May 9th, 2005 @ 12:50 pm General Fandom, Movies, Real Life

It probably goes without saying that, if I were to purchase an Aurora: Star Wars Edition, it would most likely be the Dark Side version with sexy Darth all over it. Now that I think about it, wouldn’t it have been hot to have Ewan MacGregor be Darth?

The Ultimate Jedi Weapon

— Molly Case on May 8th, 2005 @ 12:00 pm General Fandom, Movies, Real Life

Robert Lusk, vice president of sales and marketing for Alienware, has been touting the high end computer manufacturer’s new Star Wars licensing deal in the press this past week. Yes, Star Wars fans, it is true. You can now use the force of your Star Wars Platinum Card to purchase an Alienware desktop machine with lowrider airbrush style Star Wars art on the side, Star Wars desktop graphics and skins, and (as if you didn’t have this already) a membership in the Star Wars fan club. Not that having Ewan MacGregor’s light saber on the side of one’s machine would be anything but a good thing.

Free Comic Book Day!

— Molly Case on May 7th, 2005 @ 12:01 am Books, Real Life

Don’t forget that today is Free Comic Book Day! As part of an effort to raise awareness of and interest in comics, Diamond, the only serious distributor of them, sponsors a yearly Free Comic Book Day. You can go to your local participating retailer and get your very own freebie. This is a great incentive to discover a wonderful medium. In theory, not every store participates, but just about every establishment more friendly to fandom than a Seven Eleven does participate. You can find local participating retailers in your area at this link.

Verotika Anime Babe Beautiful in Corset on Gothic Sluts

— Molly Case on May 6th, 2005 @ 1:38 am Costuming, Web Sites

Speaking of anime style hotties, I think this free photo gallery of Verotika of Gothic Sluts fame is adorable. Love the beautiful corset and the beautiful photography and this beautiful anime dream girl’s huge expressive eyes and teeny mouth.

Naughty Nati Gets An Anime Musical Score

— Molly Case on May 5th, 2005 @ 1:27 am Costuming, Movies, Web Sites

Something about this gallery of sexy tattooed teen Naughty Nati makes me think of anime girls. It is partly that, despite the ink, Nati looks like such an innocent young thing with her big blue eyes and teeny mouth. I think the kicker is that the soundtrack for these video clips really sounds like something out of an anime flick. It might just be something about those adorable tattooed stars.

Marvel Will Be Making Its Own Movies

— Molly Case on May 4th, 2005 @ 9:28 am General Fandom, Books, Movies, Real Life

Last week, Marvel finally settled with Chairman Emeritus Stan Lee over the royalties from the Spiderman movies and is now looking to produce its own movies. Marvel made a deal with Paramount to distribute its comic book-based flicks, but now Paramount will receive only the distribution fees instead of the bigger piece of the pie from prior deals. The full details of the Stan Lee settlement have not yet been disclosed, although word is that it cost Marvel at least ten million dollars from its current fiscal quarter. The execs at Marvel see a whole lot more money on the table, however, from the company’s stable of roughly five thousand characters the company owns. Should be an interesting upcoming decade for comic book fans. Captain America is apparently the first superhero up at bat for Marvel in 2007 under their new terms. Prior movie deals may still be bringing us Fantastic Four and X-Men 3 from Fox, Punisher 2 from Lion’s Gate, Ghost Rider and Luke Cage from Sony, Namor and Hulk 2 from Universal, and potentially Deathlok from distributor Paramount.

Letting Our Hair Down for Prince Charming and the Beast

— Molly Case on May 3rd, 2005 @ 10:10 am General Fandom, Real Life

A researcher in London recently did a study where she suggests that fairy tales may end in horror. Graduate student Susan Darker-Smith’s thesis is that young girls who are fed an escapist literature diet of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Rapunzel are more likely to end up in abusive relationships. She feels that the themes of such stories are that girls should be submissive and that awful significant others can change. Darker-Smith’s study is called The Tales We Tell Our Children: Overconditioning of Girls to Expect Partners to Change.

I know that a lot of people in fandom were especially raised on such literature. There tends to be a lot more subdom sexy play within fandom than amongst other social groups, but I tend to think there is not more domestic abuse. I know that wealthy and educated women get abused as well as poor and illiterate women, but I have the possibly incorrect notion that it tends to happen less often. It might, however, just be reported less. I suppose one is less likely to annoy the neighbors into calling the police if one has an acre of land between the abuse and the neighbors versus just a thin apartment wall.

Certainly Darker-Smith’s work is food for thought and should spur some interesting feminist debate.

Samsung’s SCH-n330 Rumble Game Controller Just Like a Car Crash Just Like a Dildo

— Molly Case on May 2nd, 2005 @ 1:21 am Gadgets, Real Life

Today, according to an excellent article Elizabeth Biddlecombe wrote for Wired about the sex toy potential of cell phones, the SCH-n330 mobile version of a rumble game controller will be introduced by Samsung. According to Immersion, the developer of the phone’s VibeTonz system, this new phone will be able to give gamers a variety of simulated sensations from steering resistance to a car crash. I’m not sure I would want my cell phone to be able to simulate the sensation of a car crash, but could be that is just me. (via Wired)

Christine Young Drinks Beer in Funny Hat

— Molly Case on May 1st, 2005 @ 1:15 am Costuming, Movies, Web Sites

Christine Young looks like she would be a lot of fun at a con. Any girl who can down a beer this fast with a funny hat on in the middle of the street is tops in my book. One of these videos is not like the others.

May Day

— Molly Case on May 1st, 2005 @ 1:05 am Real Life

On this day in 1886, nearly one million Americans went on strike in order to have an eight hour workday. Guess that didn’t last too well. I think we might already live in a dystopian cyberpunk future of 24/7 access to information and pressure to work harder and longer.
